Education

Middlesbrough College (2023 - 2026)

BaHons Music and Audio Production

Before starting at middlesbrough college i had no prior production education. I had picked up bits and pieces from playing in bands and being in recording studios, just on the other side of the glass. My first year here was my first time having hands on experience with a DAW, from then on my time was dedicated to becoming proficient in working within them, particularly ProTools. By my third year i had picked up a modest amount of recording experience by the time David had started on the course. We then decided to combine our knowledge and start on the EP.

The college had also given me experience in Live sound, Lighting, and sound design in games, TV, and film with a focus on Foley recording, ADR, and mixing for TV.

AVID ProTools Specialist Certification

In 2024 i had taken the optional course run by AVID to become a certified specialist with the software. This not only proves my knowledge within the DAW but also how it works and interacts with the systems its on, how to improve my workflows, and improve how efficiently a session is ran. This also gives any potential employers an idea of my skill level upon a first interaction, as well as dedication to the craft, and ability to meet professional deadlines

Production Portfolio

‘You Only Have To Ask’ - Fletcher

This is an EP that was recorded, mixed, mastered, and released by myself and David. The process taught us both a lot about how to get what we want out of a recording after a lot of trial and error. From microphone choice to using the room we were recording in to our advantage, i would say it has improved my ability overall with recording and making more informed choices in the future.

Making full use of every studio available to us at the college, every aspect was carefully thought over with a lot of time and effort put in to getting the end product sounding how we imagined it sounding. Overall it took us about 3 months to get it done start-to-finish (which also included the writing process).

This experience had tested our ability in many aspects such as:

  • Knowledge of mic positions and choices

  • Knowledge of DAW operation

  • Room responses in relation to the instruments

  • How different aspects of recording affect one another

Networking and Industry Interaction

In February 2026, I had the opportunity (through Middlesbrough College) to attend a talk presented by Ken Scott ahead of his talk at the Forum, Darlington. Scott was the producer behind a large amount of The Beatles albums during his time at Abbey Road, as well as a few of the members solo projects in his time at Trident studios. he has also worked with The Jeff Beck Group, and David Bowie on a lot of his early career up until after Ziggy Stardust.

This talk consisted of his story in getting into production during the analogue age, the importance of having good relationships with the recording artists, and the transition from analogue to digital.

It was a huge privilege to have attended and interacted in this talk as I had the opportunity to speak with him one on one afterwards.
